In 2022 Council endorsed the Corporate Power Plan to guide the transition of City-owned and managed buildings to 100% renewable energy by 2030. This plan is one of the outcomes of the City of Albany Climate Change Action Declaration (2019), developed in collaboration with the Youth Advisory Council. It supersedes the Carbon Footprint Reduction Strategy (2021).
Actions include:
- Power Purchase Agreement with 100% renewable power for contestable sites
- Implementing rooftop solar on 11 City owned and operated buildings
- Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre Biofuel System
- Cities Power Partnership member
- Participation in the Regional Climate Alliance Program as a South Coast Alliance member
- Building audits to identify energy efficiency opportunities
- Investigation of LED street lighting
As the Corporate Power Plan only focuses on transitioning to 100% renewable power for City owned and operated facilities, a roadmap will be developed to transition the City to net zero emissions by 2050. The Roadmap will include all the actions in the Corporate Power Plan but will also be expanded to include all Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Scheduled for commencement in 2024, the Corporate Roadmap to Net Zero will provide an understanding of current and projected emissions, reduction activities, trends, and potential actions.
